Aave [published](https://governance.aave.com/t/arfc-low-adoption-asset-deprecation-on-aave-v3/25401) a proposal to deprecate 50 low-adoption asset reserves across multiple deployments and winding down its lending markets on Sonic, Scroll, zkSync, Metis, Soneium, and Aptos. The closure impacts a total of 75 reserves covering $98.1 million in supplied assets and $15.6 million in outstanding debt.

Twenty-one matured Pendle Principal Tokens are also being deprecated in favor of new maturities. Aave cited a decline in revenue below the cost of operational support as reasons for the wind downs. During the wind-downs, reserves will be frozen, supply and borrow caps will be set to 1, and reserve factors on borrowable assets are raised to push organic repayment and withdrawal with no forced liquidations.

Stani Kulechov [said](https://x.com/StaniKulechov/status/2082784449716965760) that the L2 shutdowns do not reflect a negative view on those networks. Rather, the goal is reducing Aave's operational, technical, and economic risk surface to focus resources on higher-impact priorities.
