Aztec Network [published](https://x.com/aztecnetwork/status/2079981982264758505) an explainer on how private gas works on its network, detailing the mechanics of Fee Juice, its native transaction fee token. Fee Juice functions like ETH does on Ethereum and is obtained by bridging the $AZTEC token from Ethereum to the Aztec L2, meaning all network activity is ultimately backed by bridged $AZTEC. Some bridges, including Shield by [human.tech](http://human.tech), let users automatically convert a portion of a bridged transaction into Fee Juice.

Like assets on Aztec, Fee Juice can be public or private. The distinction matters because a private transaction paid for with public gas can still leak transaction patterns; using private Fee Juice keeps the entire transaction footprint hidden, while public Fee Juice pairs with public transactions.

Aztec's native fee abstraction means apps can let users pay fees in any token or absorb costs entirely, so most users interacting through an app may never encounter Fee Juice directly. Browser extension wallets such as Azguard instead require users to manage Fee Juice directly, converting between public and private balances as needed and monitoring supply to cover transaction costs.
