Vitalik Reframes Role Of L2s

In his latest post on X, Vitalik Buterin stated that the original vision of L2s as "Ethereum-branded shards" no longer makes sense. He pointed to slower-than-expected L2 decentralization progress and rapid Ethereum L1 scaling as reasons for the vision change. He suggests viewing L2s as a spectrum of chains with Ethereum backing and varying unique features. He advises L2s to focus on value-add beyond scaling, such as privacy, specialized VMs, and extreme throughput. Vitalik also emphasizes that L2s working with ETH should be at least stage 1 and maximize Ethereum interoperability. Ethereum's native rollup precompile for verifying ZK-EVM proofs will enable secure, trustless interoperability and synchronous composability for L1<>L2 interactions, while allowing L2s to innovate in other areas.

Tally Introduces ICO Platform

Onchain governance platform Tally is launching its own ICO platform, powered by Uniswap's Continuous Clearing Auction (CCA) mechanism. The platform enables teams to raise capital transparently, fairly, and accountably, while integrating Tally's governance products and services into a unified system. To demonstrate its capabilities, Tally is hosting its own token sale on the platform and will document the process over the next 60 days. Widely adopted across the Ethereum ecosystem, Tally already supports governance of major projects including Arbitrum, ENS, Uniswap, zkSync, EigenLayer, and Obol. Tally also supports Liquid Staked Tokens (tLSTs), which enable users to earn rewards for delegating and staking.

Y Combinator Supports USDC Funding

Y Combinator, one of the leading startup accelerators, is now offering funding in USDC stablecoins on Base. The accelerator highlighted stablecoins' low cost, efficiency, and global reach, as well as the passage of the GENIUS Act, as key reasons for the move. YC expects its startups, whether crypto-focused or not, to leverage crypto in some way, using a better system for payments, banking, and capital raising.

Wonderland Interoperable Addresses

Wonderland, a technical collective focused on building core infrastructure, introduced Interoperable Addresses, a new standard for representing addresses along with their specific chain. The solution aims to make cross-chain interactions safer, clearer, and fully compatible, allowing users to send assets to an ENS domain paired with a target chain identifier. Interoperable Addresses are based on ERC-7930, a compact binary format for smart contracts, and ERC-7828, a human-readable format that optionally supports ENS.

The standard helps prevent mistakes such as sending funds to the correct address on the wrong chain. Wonderland also collaborated with the Ethereum Foundation Protocol Teams to develop an Interop Addresses SDK, allowing apps and wallets to integrate the feature. Wonderland is also building an onchain chain registry using ENS, allowing chain information to be retrieved without relying on offchain servers.

Synchronous Rollups With RTP

Jordi Baylina, the current contributor to the Zisk high-performance zkVM, published a research post proposing synchronous composability between rollups using real-time proving. Baylina suggests that by combining real-time proving with proxy contracts and execution tables, rollups can achieve atomic, cross-chain composability without requiring any L1 forks. The solution ensures that transactions either fully succeed or fully revert across multiple chains. Synchronous composability allows a smart contract to call a contract on another chain and receive the result within the same transaction. It removes the multi-step delays of current asynchronous cross-chain calls, which often break atomicity and DeFi composability.

TheDAO Stakes 69,420 ETH

TheDAO Security Fund, the latest iteration of TheDAO dedicated to supporting Ethereum security, has deposited 69,420 ETH onto the Beacon Chain. Contributor pcaversaccio carried out the deployment using a wallet funded via TornadoCash. The fund manages approximately $220 million in unclaimed edge-case funds from TheDAO hack, committed to Ethereum security. Pcaversaccio highlighted that all future grant transactions will now carry the TornadoCash association, demonstrating that TornadoCash can be used for legitimate purposes. The deposit will take about 69 days before it's fully staked.

Vitalik Commits 16k ETH For Privacy Tech

Vitalik Buterin has committed 16,384 ETH, worth $45 million, to support open-source, secure, and verifiable software and hardware focused on privacy, decentralization, and user self-sovereignty. He also plans to use decentralized staking, with staking rewards helping fund these efforts over the long term. Targeted areas include finance, communication, governance, operating systems, secure hardware, privacy, and biotech. He noted that he is personally taking on work that might otherwise have been funded by the Ethereum Foundation, as the Foundation narrows its scope to focus on delivering an ambitious scaling roadmap while keeping Ethereum performant, robust, sustainable, and decentralized, and preserving self-sovereignty, security, and privacy.

Lido V3 Live On Ethereum Mainnet

Lido V3, a major upgrade that is transforming the protocol from a pooled staking model into a modular, decentralized Ethereum staking infrastructure, is now live on Ethereum mainnet. Lido V3 introduces stVaults, which are non-custodial, customizable smart contracts that allow users to define their own validator setup. stVaults support overcollateralized stETH minting and feature critical safeguards such as immutable collateral caps and an escape hatch to opt out of protocol governance. All stVaults share stETH as a common liquidity layer. Lido is offering a 0% Lido infrastructure fee for qualifying stVault early adopters until March 31, 2026.

Lighter Introduces Lighter EVM

Lighter announced Lighter EVM, an EVM-equivalent rollup that natively interoperates with the Lighter L2, enabling general-purpose applications to compose with Lighter's trading markets and liquidity at low latency while preserving security. Lighter EVM adds EVM composability to Lighter's high-performance ZK-based L2 network. Lighter EVM leverages OpenVM, a zkVM by Axiom, to verify EVM execution alongside Lighter's existing custom circuits. Both systems jointly settle on Ethereum with proof aggregation, allowing users to move assets and positions between the Lighter L2 and Lighter EVM in seconds. Lighter EVM aims to support DeFi applications, fast bridges, shared collateral, and native stablecoins, with an initial devnet release planned in the coming weeks.

Frame Transaction EIP-8141

Ethereum core developer Lightclient introduced EIP-8141, a proposal to add a new Ethereum transaction type, known as Frame transactions. Frame transactions enable accounts to define transaction validation, execution, and gas payment logic directly in EVM code, rather than relying on a fixed ECDSA signature scheme. A Frame transaction is composed of multiple ordered frames, each with a specific role, which together determine who authorizes the transaction, who executes it, and who pays the associated fees. The standard enables native account abstraction at the protocol level. EIP-8141 is proposed as a Headliner for Hegota.
