Arbitrum published a proposal to adopt Rollup Improvement Proposal (RIP) 7212, a new standard for secure and cost-effective signature verifications using the secp256r1 elliptic curve. The standard aims to improve account abstraction by significantly lowering the costs associated with signature verification. The implementation of RIP-7212 lowers the costs associated with passkey-based wallets, which leverage technologies like biometrics and WebAuthn to provide a more user-friendly experience. Polygon PoS was the first network to implement the standard. An initial Snapshot vote will go live to enable RIP-7212 on the Arbitrum Sepolia testnet.
Ethpandaops introduced Assertoor, a specialized tool designed for testing conditions and functionalities on Ethereum testnets. The tool connects to Ethereum clients using public HTTP RPC APIs and manages complex test sequences through YAML-defined playbooks. Assertoor integrates with Kurtosis, which facilitates the creation of local Ethereum networks in a controlled environment. Assertoor pinpoints issues across different Ethereum client implementations and can be used for both periodic testing of client updates and continuous testing on public Ethereum testnets. Ethpandaops is an Ethereum DevOps team that provides tools and resources like performance monitoring for testing protocol upgrades.
EtherFi, the leading liquid restaking protocol with $3.5 billion in total value locked, now supports native restaking on L2 networks. Users can directly mint EtherFi's weETH LRT on Blast and Mode Network, with planned support for Linea, Optimism, and Base in the coming weeks. Users on Mode network are advised to migrate from the canonically bridged weETH to the natively bridged weETH. The canonical bridged version of weETH on Arbitrum is also set to be phased out in June. The integration leverages LayerZero’s Omni-chain Fungible Token (OFT) standard, which enables the transfer of weETH across various blockchains that are supported by LayerZero.
Degen Chain, an L3 chain designed for the DEGEN community token, has emerged as the top Ethereum-based chain by transactions per second (TPS) over the last 24 hours, recording an average of 37 TPS. Base follows in second with an average TPS of 30. Built on the Arbitrum Orbit tech stack, Degen Chain settles transactions on Base and utilizes AnyTrust for data availability. Since its launch in late March, the chain has amassed just over $5 million in TVL.

Avail, a data availability blockchain, launched an airdrop for its native AVAIL token. The allocation includes 600 million AVAIL tokens for users across the Ethereum, Solana, Cosmos, Avalanche, and Near ecosystems. Eligibility categories include developers, incentivized testnet contributors, Polygon PoS stakers, and rollup users on OP Mainnet, Arbitrum, zkSync, and Polygon ZK-EVM. Eligible users must claim their AVAIL by May 5th. Once Avail Network launches on mainnet, the tokens will be automatically disbursed to the claimed wallets. AVAIL will be used to pay for services, and enhance security through staking, and governance participation. Avail originated from within Polygon Labs and later became an independent project in 2023. Avail aims to provide a scalable and secure solution for data storage, using both validity proofs and data availability sampling (DAS).
Optimism released the schedule for its fourth Retro Funding round, which targets onchain builders. The application window will open from May 23rd to June 6th, with badgeholders set to vote on allocations between June 23rd and July 8th. The results will be announced on July 15th. The round will allocate 10 million OP tokens to projects that have increased demand for blockspace. The funding round is based on impact metrics, including engagement with repeat and high-trust score users, and attracting new users. To be eligible, applicants must have deployed contracts on OP Stack chains, achieved interactions with at least 420 unique addresses from January 1 to May 1, 2024, maintained contract activity for more than 10 days, and verified contract ownership on GitHub.
Velodrome, the leading DEX on Base and Optimism, unveiled plans to expand its DEX to the Lisk L2 network. Originally launched as an L1 blockchain in 2016, Lisk has evolved into an OP Stack chain that focuses on real-world assets and the development of decentralized networks for physical infrastructure. Holders of $veVELO will vote on directing $VELO token emissions towards liquidity pools on Lisk. Lisk has also pledged to acquire a stake in $VELO and has committed $1 million in voting incentives to stimulate liquidity. The Lisk L2 network is live on testnet, with plans for a mainnet launch in the third quarter of 2024.
Optimism activated its Multi-Chain Prep (MCP) upgrade on mainnet. The update enables all chains within the OP Stack to reference a unified smart contract implementation. The feature allows L1 contracts to be upgraded across various OP Stack chains through a single transaction, enhancing upgradeability across the Superchain. The upgrade also introduces the dynamic discovery of contract addresses via SystemConfig, which improves the developer experience. The MCP upgrade was approved by OP token holders last month.

Worldcoin, the digital identity network founded by OpenAI's Sam Altman, introduced World Chain, a new L2 network built on the OP Stack that prioritizes human users. The network will give priority block space to wallet addresses that are verified through World ID's Proof of Personhood credentials, aiming to reduce spam and bot activity. Currently, the Worldcoin protocol operates on OP mainnet and has a global user base of 10 million, with 5 million of those users having already verified their identities using an Orb. According to the project, Worldcoin users account for 44% of the activity on OP mainnet. The launch of the new L2 network is scheduled for this summer and will include a gas allowance for World ID-verified users.
Socket, a liquidity aggregation layer, re-introduced itself as the chain abstraction protocol, a new architecture that features Modular Orderflow Actions (MOFA), an auction-based system where execution agents, like sequencers, validators, market-makers, solvers, and keepers, compete to execute user requests. The new approach reduces the need for users to bridge by allowing them to cover execution costs on their preferred chain while an execution agent carries out the request on the target chain. The design aims to address liquidity fragmentation and a worsening user experience caused by the increasing number of modular chains.
The Arbitrum Foundation is now accepting applications for the third phase of its grant program, open to teams developing on Arbitrum One, Nova, Orbit, or Stylus. This phase excludes infrastructure, education, events, and community projects. Grants range from an average of $10,000 to $150,000 in ARB tokens, disbursed based on the achievement of KPI-based milestones. Phase three includes five grant tracks: the Growth Track for projects on Arbitrum testnet, the Advanced Growth Track for projects on Arbitrum mainnet, a Multichain Growth Track for applications launched on other mainnets, along with tracks for Orbit and Stylus projects. The application period closes in late June, and grants are awarded on a rolling basis, with final decisions made by the Arbitrum Foundation.
Liquid staking protocol StakeWise announced plans to launch the third iteration of its protocol on Gnosis Chain. The release will help expand the GNO node operator set and stake all unbonded GNO. It will also feature new functionalities for staking withdrawals, liquid solo staking, and aims to restore the sGNO and rGNO peg. Currently, StakeWise's deployment on Gnosis Chain holds 36% of all staked GNO with a TVL of approximately $24 million.
