Unichain Releases Roadmap To Mainnet
The Unichain mainnet, launching in 2025, will feature live, permissionless fault proofs from day one.
Unichain, Uniswap's DeFi-focused Layer 2 built on the OP Stack, announced its roadmap to mainnet, targeted for early 2025. The rollout will follow a phased approach, including testing, infrastructure provider access, public mainnet launch, and experimental testing for the Unichain Validation Network. Unichain was first introduced in October 2024 with the launch of the Unichain Sepolia Testnet. Since its debut, the Unichain testnet has processed over 50 million transactions and deployed 4 million contracts. On January 6, 2025, Unichain Sepolia will upgrade to permissionless fault proofs. The Unichain mainnet will follow with live permissionless fault proofs from day one. Unichain will feature native Superchain Interoperability, cross-chain intents, and 1-second confirmation times

Unichain Holocene Network Upgrade
The testnet upgrade introduces Holocene Block Derivation, MIPS Contracts, and EIP-1559 Configurability.
Unichain, Uniswap's DeFi-focused Layer 2 built on the OP Stack, is scheduled to activate the Holocene Network Upgrade on its testnet on December 18, 2024, at 22:00 UTC. The upgrade introduces Holocene Block Derivation, MIPS Contracts, and EIP-1559 Configurability, designed to improve functionality, performance, and scalability. The Holocene Block Derivation update simplifies the block derivation pipeline, optimizing worst-case performance for the Fault Proof System and improving cross-network interoperability. To ensure compatibility with the upgrade, node operators must update their op-node and op-geth software and properly configure the activation date.

Uniswap Introduces Unichain
Unichain is a DeFi-focused L2 built on the OP Stack expected to launch on mainnet by the end of 2024.
Uniswap introduced Unichain, a DeFi-focused L2 built on the OP Stack. Unichain is now live on testnet with a mainnet launch planned later this year. Unichain will be part of the Superchain and Uniswap Labs will become a core contributor to the OP Stack. Unichain will also support native Superchain Interoperability. Native interoperability enables seamless cross-chain message-passing between OP Stack chains. The SuperchainERC20 standard will eliminate the need for multiple bridged asset versions. Unichain will also support cross-chain intents standard ERC-7683, extending interoperability to the broader Ethereum ecosystem. Unichain features an initial 1-second confirmation time, which helps mitigate MEV. By having faster block times, the chain creates more stable market conditions, thereby reducing opportunities for MEV exploitation. According to Uniswap, Unichain will be approximately 95% cheaper than Ethereum L1.
