Mitsui Launches Commodity-Backed Tokens On OP Mainnet
Mitsui & Co. Digital Commodities is launching tokenized Gold, Silver, and Platinum on OP Mainnet starting April 20, 2026.
Optimism announced that Mitsui & Co. Digital Commodities is launching commodity-backed crypto assets on OP Mainnet. The tokens are part of the Zipangcoin series issued by Mitsui & Co. Digital Commodities, consisting of Zipangcoin (ZPG) for gold, Zipangcoin Silver (ZPGAG), and Zipangcoin Platinum (ZPGPT), each designed to track the spot market price of its underlying metal. The tokens are set to begin listing on April 20, 2026. The tokens will be yield-bearing and backed by physical precious metals, operating within Japan's crypto-friendly regulatory framework.

Optimism Pilots Stake-Based Transaction Ordering
The mechanism allows users to stake OP tokens in a smart contract to give a chosen address priority in transaction ordering.
Optimism proposed piloting an experimental stake-based transaction ordering system on its network. The mechanism allows users to stake OP tokens in a smart contract to give a chosen address priority in transaction ordering. The pilot will test how the model affects user behavior, especially among bots and market makers.
The proposed ordering mechanism aims to create new utility, increase demand for OP tokens, and improve network efficiency. During the experiment, priority will depend on the amount and duration of OP staked. The system is currently live on the OP Sepolia testnet and will run for up to four weeks on mainnet. After the pilot, OP Mainnet will revert to the standard priority gas auction (PGA) system.

Celo Selects OP Stack For CEL2

Celo Network, an EVM-compatible L1 blockchain, has selected the OP Stack as its tech stack to develop its L2 network. Following approval by Celo governance, a testnet deployment on the OP Stack will go live this summer. The initiative to migrate Celo's L1 chain into an L2 network was first introduced in July 2023. Since the initial proposal, cLabs has evaluated various rollup stacks, including Arbitrum Orbit, Polygon CDK, and the ZK Stack. The OP Stack was selected as the most suitable choice for Celo’s L2 transition due to its quick time to production, Ethereum alignment, and growth opportunities through the Optimism Collective.
