The non-profit consolidated a year of institutional engagement work led by the Ethereum Foundation's enterprise team, housing it in an independent entity with a broader geographic footprint and long-term funding backed by Bitmine, Sharplink, and Joe Lubin, along with a coalition of individual and institutional contributors. The launch represents the second major independent steward organization for the Ethereum ecosystem unveiled in recent days, following the announcement of senior EF researchers launching Ethlabs. Together, Ethlabs and Ethereum Institutional are positioned as complementary pillars of Ethereum's next chapter: Ethlabs focuses on protocol-layer research and core infrastructure, while Ethereum Institutional acts as an outward-facing counterpart to guide financial institutions from evaluation through live deployment. Ethereum Institutional's work centers on five focus areas: education and engagement, research and intelligence, marketing for ETH and the broader ecosystem, industry requirements and standards, and events. By remaining independent and refusing to sell a proprietary chain, private layer, or specific wallet, the organization intends to serve as a neutral guide that carries institutional requirements straight into the ecosystem. The founding team has already established over 500 institutional relationships. Ethereum Institutional is led by David Walsh, Marius Smith, and Matthew Dawson. The board of directors includes Thomas Lee and Joseph Chalom.
