# Former EF Researchers Launch Ethlabs > Former EF researchers cofound Ethlabs, an independent nonprofit R&D organization funded by Bitmine, Sharplink, and Joe Lubin. **Published by:** [ETH Daily](https://ethdaily.io/) **Published on:** 2026-06-23 **URL:** https://ethdaily.io/former-ef-researchers-launch-ethlabs ## Content A group of five former Ethereum Foundation (EF) researchers and core contributors introduced the launch of Ethlabs, an independent nonprofit research and development organization focused on accelerating Ethereum’s institutional and developer adoption. The new lab is cofounded by Ansgar Dietrichs, Barnabé Monnot, Caspar Schwarz-Schilling, Josh Rudolf, and Julian Ma, who have spent years guiding Ethereum through it's most critical protocol upgrades. Ethlabs is backed by prominent ecosystem entities, including Bitmine Immersion Technologies, Sharplink, Anchorage, Octant, Joe Lubin, and SNZ. The launch represents a shift toward a multi-node governance model as the EF refocused its mandate, following several high-profile departures earlier this year, including Monnot’s step-back from core protocol leadership. The team aims to bridge the gap between actual network usage and core protocol integration, working directly with wallets, L2 rollups, and developers to translate ecosystem needs into core standards and shipped products. The group's immediate research roadmap is centered on engineering requirements for scaling institutional activity, including faster settlement, robust cross-chain messaging, mainnet capacity expansion, and preserving the monetary properties of ETH. Ethlabs is currently recruiting developer and researcher talent to add to its lean team.
