# Glamsterdam Activates On Platåberget Testnet > Ethereum's next upgrade, Glamsterdam, activated on the Platåberget testnet. Bug fixes are expected before the fork hits Sepolia and Hoodi. **Published by:** [ETH Daily News](https://ethdaily.io/) **Published on:** 2026-08-20 **Categories:** news, ethereum, glamsterdam, platåberget, upgrade, eth, arbitrum, snarks **URL:** https://ethdaily.io/glamsterdam-activates-on-plataberget-testnet ## Content Happy Thursday, August 20, 2026. The price of ETH is up 10% in the last 24 hours, trading for $2,320 at the time of writing. Glamsterdam activates on the Platåberget testnet. Arbitrum nears production ZK Proving and activates the ArbOS Elara upgrade. And the Ethereum Foundation announces a SNARK proof challenge. Glamsterdam Activates On Platåberget The Glamsterdam hard fork activated on the Platåberget testnet on August 20th at 7:50 UTC at epoch 1,536, marking the first public testnet activation Glamsterdam is Ethereum's next upgrade that brings ePBS, Block-Level Access Lists, and gas repricings. The activation incurred issues across multiple consensus clients. Lighthouse, Prysm, and Teku, struggled to process the first slot after the fork due to a caching bug in how they handled builder deposits. Grandine also encountered a separate bug. The issues are being investigated and fixes are expected before Sepolia and Hoodi activations. Sepolia is tentatively scheduled for September 28 at epoch 351232 and Hoodi follows on October 26 at epoch 132352, pending confirmations. Despite the rough start, finalization has resumed on the Platåberget testnet and vote participation is running at 95%. Platåberget is a short-lived public testnet for Glamsterdam. Arbitrum Nears Production ZK Proving Arbitrum published progress milestones toward bringing ZK proving into production. ZK proving now works in Arbitrum block validation: pointed at a real mainnet block, it generates a zero-knowledge proof by running the actual Arbitrum state transition function inside SP1, Succinct's zkVM, the same code path used by Arbitrum's optimistic prover. The WASM-based prover has also been extended to prove Arbitrum Stylus contracts alongside Solidity. BoLD, Arbitrum's settlement layer, has been extended to accept ZK proofs. Rather than waiting out the standard multi-day challenge window, an assertion can confirm once a valid ZK proof lands and a new Fast Confirmation Committee attests to the same result. The fraud-proof dispute game remains underneath, so ZK proving is additive: if no proof is submitted, the chain settles as it does today. ZK proving is not yet live on Arbitrum One. Arbitrum also activated ArbOS Elara on Arbitrum One and Nova, delivering protocol-level compliance filtering and customizable priority fee support for dedicated blockchains, alongside improvements to Arbitrum One. Compliance filtering allows operators of dedicated chains to screen transactions at the protocol layer, a capability aimed at institutional and regulated deployments. Priority fee customization gives chain operators finer control over fee market dynamics, relevant for chains with specific latency or ordering requirements. EF Opens SNARK Proof Challenge The Ethereum Foundation's Formal Verification team, working with Yukon and zkSecurity, launched better.codes, an open challenge to strengthen the mathematical guarantees behind hash-based SNARKs, the proof systems that power zkrollups, zkVMs, and Ethereum's post-quantum plans. The specific target is a math problem called koalaIRS12. It's tied to a technique these SNARKs rely on for compressing and verifying large amounts of data efficiently. Security researchers believe these systems hit their 128-bit security target, but nobody has fully proven it. Anyone can sign in with GitHub, pull the challenge repository, and set their AI agents loose trying to push the proven security bound closer to 128 bits. Every submitted proof gets automatically checked by a verification tool and accepted proofs go onto a public leaderboard for others to build on. Successful submissions can earn a share of the Ethereum Foundation's $1 million Proximity Prize. Misc News Check out the latest DeFi yield opportunities. Watch the ACDC #185 recap.
