It's Tuesday, August 25, 2026.

The EF publishes a PSA about potential breaking changes from gas repricings in Glamsterdam. Ethlabs breaks down the native account abstraction debate. And the core maintainer of IPFS infrastructure winds down.

Glamsterdam Gas Repricings Breaking Changes
-------------------------------------------

The Ethereum Foundation [published](https://blog.ethereum.org/2026/08/24/glamsterdam-repricing-testing) a developer warning about upcoming changes from gas repricings in EIP-8037 and EIP-8038 in the Glamsterdam upgrade, slated to go live in Q4 2026. The gas repricings could break or degrade a small set of smart contracts that use hard coded gas assumptions. Ethereum developers should check their contract addresses for potential impacts. Some of the impacted contracts are fixable with higher gas limits.

The two EIPs adjust how gas is priced for state creation and access. EIP-8037 increases the cost of creating new state, such as new accounts, new storage slots, and deployed bytecode, and meters it separately. EIP-8038 increases the cost of accessing existing state. The changes are a prerequisite for further gas limit increases.

Ethlabs Breaks Down Native AA Debate
------------------------------------

Derek Chiang of Ethlabs [published](https://x.com/decentrek/status/2092220720235565312) a detailed breakdown of the two competing native account abstraction proposals, EIP-8130 proposed by Base and EIP-8141 Frame Transactions proposed by Ethereum developers. The core tradeoff between the two proposals is simplicity and diversity. EIP-8130 offers simplicity, whereas Frames offers extensibility but that also comes with fragmentation.

8130 offers a full enshrined account standard (policies, session keys, actors). Frames only provides the AA primitives and lets the application layer innovate. Frames also allows unstructured validation, enabling ETH-less accounts to pay gas with arbitrary logic. Chiang suggested to ether strip 8130's keystore validation into Ethereum and move its enshrined account model to a separate ERC or finish Frames' pure-function workstream and add cross-chain portability.

IPFS Maintainer Winds Down
--------------------------

Shipyard, the primary maintainer behind IPFS, is winding down all IPFS-related work after Protocol Labs declined to renew its funding. The final day of operations will be on September 30, 2026. Since Shipyard maintains most of the core IPFS stack and operates critical public infrastructure including [ipfs.io](http://ipfs.io), [dweb.link](http://dweb.link), the IPFS bootstrap nodes, the wind down has a far reaching impact.

While the IPFS protocol continues, the infrastructure is what makes it practically usable for most people. Projects relying on the gateways, bootstrap nodes, and reference implementations may encounter disruptions as unmaintained systems break. For the Ethereum ecosystem specifically, NFT metadata, decentralized frontends, and other content served via the gateways is at risk of becoming inaccessible.
