# Mastercard Launches Agent Pay for Machines

Mastercard introduced Agent Pay for Machines (AP4M), a service that permissions, orchestrates, and settles machine-driven payments at machine speed across its global network. The system targets a new class of high-frequency, low-latency, low-value transactions, executed programmatically between AI agents in the background of digital commerce. AP4M builds on Mastercard's Agent Pay program, introduced in 2025. Where Agent Pay defines how trusted AI agents participate in payments, AP4M handles the automated, micro- and machine-driven transactions that run continuously between systems. It rests on four capabilities: credentialing each agent via Verifiable Intent, programmatically enforced permissioning and spending limits, transacting across providers, and guaranteed multi-rail settlement spanning cards, accounts, and stablecoins. More than 30 launch participants and supporters span payments and crypto, including Adyen, Ant International, BVNK, Checkout.com, Cloudflare, Coinbase, Stripe, Tempo, OKX, Aave Labs, Polygon, Ripple, Solana Foundation, Alchemy, Anchorage Digital, MoonPay, and Crossmint. "Agent Pay for Machines will create the conditions for a superbloom of AI business models," said Mastercard chief product officer Jorn Lambert.
