The Optimism Delta network upgrade has successfully been deployed to mainnet, introducing Span Batches for OP Stack chains. Span Batches reduce the fixed onchain costs of operating an OP Stack chain by encoding consecutive L2 blocks into a single batch, reducing the number of blocks posted to L1 Ethereum. The new feature yields significant cost reductions, especially for new or less active OP Stack chains such as Mode, which anticipates its fixed monthly overhead expenses to reduce from $200,000 to under $1,000, marking a cost reduction of over 90%. Optimism will also be EIP-4844 ready once the Dencun upgrade goes live on Ethereum.
Euler Finance unveiled its whitepaper for Euler V2, the second itteration of its lending platform. Euler V2 introduces a modular framework that supports the creation of customizable ERC-4626-compatible vaults. It features vaults designed for governed lending, ungoverned modular vaults, and escrow vaults for collateral without yield. The core components of Euler V2 include the Euler Vault Kit (EVK), which facilitates the development and linking of various lending vaults, and the Ethereum Vault Connector (EVC), which enables vaults to interconnect and serve as collateral for each other. This release follows the pause of Euler V1 amid a $200 million flash loan attack last year, from which the majority of funds were recovered.
Authentication development tool provider Privy officially launched its services for general availability. Now, anyone can use Privy's wallet connectors into their mobile applications to integrate secure authentication and embedded wallets. The launch includes Privy’s progressive authentication library, embedded wallet library, and web and mobile clients. Privy enables web2 sign-up options for end users, such as SMS, email, and social logins. It also supports web3 social logins through platforms like Lens and Farcaster. Privy's libraries have already been adopted by friend.tech, OpenSea, and Zora to streamline wallet onboarding.
Uniswap released free ENS subdomains, allowing users to turn their hexadecimal Ethereum address into a human-readable address. Users can claim their personalized uni.eth subdomain via the Uniswap mobile app on iOS and Android. Users can modify their ENS records to include an avatar, biography, and social media links directly from the Uniswap app. Claiming a subdomain is also gasless. Uniswap is the largest DEX by TVL with over $4.5 billion.

Infrastructure provider Conduit now supports Layer 3 chain deployments on testnet. Developers can now launch L3 chains that settle transactions on OP Stack chains including Base, Mode, and Zora Network. To further reduce network fees, developers have the option to use Celestia for data availability. L3s offer lower computational costs and dedicated block space tailored for application-specific chains. Conduit released a commemorative NFT series across each of the networks to celebrate the launch of L3. Mode refers to its L3s as Mode Flares. Deploying a rollup to mainnet on Conduit incurs a monthly RaaS fee of $3,000.
Blockchain service provider Alchemy launched Modular Account, a new smart contract account implementation that is compatible with ERC-4337 and ERC-6900. Modular Account allows developers to installl modular plugins for desired functionalities such as account recovery, multi-signature capabilities, and key permissions. Alchemy introduced two initial plugins: the Multi Owner Plugin for shared account ownership and the Session Key Plugin for temporary access permissions. ERC-6900 is a standard for composable contract accounts, while ERC-4337 is an account abstraction standard that introduces user operations and bundlers. Modular Account is accessible through Alchemy’s AccountKit SDK.
Fuel Labs unveiled plans to launch its optimistic Layer 2 rollup protocol to mainnet by Q3 2024. Positioned as an operating system designed for Ethereum rollups, Fuel consists of the FuelVM, the Sway programming language, and the Forc Toolchain framework for building dapps. Fuel introduces native account abstraction and supports multiple signature schemes. Fuel combines features from different blockchain systems, like interoperability and security, into a single system coined as the rollup operating system. Further details about the project's launch will be released in the upcoming months.
The Ethereum Foundation has opened applications for its first round of ZK grants, with a total of $900,000 available for research and development proposals focused on ZK proofs and standards for ZK Layer 2 solutions. The foundation is seeking proposals related to benchmarking the performance of proof systems, tools for forced inclusion, transpilers for zkDSL to Solidity, and multi-proofs systems. Applications can be submitted until March 18th.

Fluent, a zkWASM execution layer for Ethereum, is integrated its Fluentbase framework with EigenLayer's Actively Validated Services (AVSs). The first integration will feature EigenDA, EigenLayer’s native data availability solution. Fluent is also planning to include an AVS for EspressoSys's shared sequencing service. The Fluentbase framework allows developers to build custom EVM-compatible chains using zkWasm and offers design choices between rollup and validium architectures. Support for Wasm allows app developers to build using languages like Rust, TypeScript, and Go. Fluent is currently available in a private beta release.
TLX introduced its leveraged token protocol powered by Synthetix perps. TLX allows users to gain leveraged exposure to an underlying asset by minting leverage tokens, which are composable ERC-20 tokens that are backed by Synthetix perpetual futures contracts. TLX offers up to 20x leverage across 50 supported assets. According to TLX, the leverage tokens can further be used across DeFi protocols and don’t require margin management. TLX is currently opening nominations for its council elections ahead of its official protocol launch and the introduction of the $TLX governance token.
Optimism unveiled its fourth surprise airdrop, allocating 10.3 million OP tokens to more than 22,000 distinct addresses. The airdrop was tailored for NFT creators, rewarding them for the gas expenses associated with NFT transfers from their NFT collections across Ethereum Mainnet, OP Mainnet, Base, or Zora Network. The qualification period spanned a year, from January 10, 2023, to January 10, 2024. Additional rewards were given to users who minted an NFT prior to 2023, engaged actively on the Superchain, and participated in the We Love the Art contest. Over 500 addresses secured the highest reward of 6,000 OP tokens. To date, Optimism has awarded over 255 million OP tokens through airdrops.
Prisma Finance deployed its PrismaLRT protocol to mainnet, allowing users to mint its new $ULTRA stablecoin against LRT collateral. The launch features initial support for EtherFi’s weETH LRT with a mint cap of 20 million ULTRA. The new vault currently holds $300k in TVL. EtherFi is the largest LRT protocol with close to 500k ETH in deposits.
