TheDAO Hack: 10 Years Later

A decade after the exploit forced Ethereum's hard fork, TheDAO has returned with a mandate focused on Ethereum security.

Ten years ago today, TheDAO was hacked. The exploit drained millions of ETH from what was at the time the largest crowdfunding event in history, ultimately forcing Ethereum's most consequential decision: a hard fork that split the chain into Ethereum and Ethereum Classic.

The recovery that followed was unprecedented. Developers executed counter-hacks to rescue the drained ETH, and every affected participant was made whole, receiving their ETH back plus bonus ETC from the fork. The hacker also received ETC on Ethereum Classic.

A decade later, TheDAO has been reborn with a new mission focused on Ethereum security with TheDAO Fund. Its recent Ethereum Security QF Round allocated $1 million in ETH to over 134 projects.
