Vitalik Buterin published a forum post proposing native Distributed Validator Technology (DVT) for Ethereum. DVT allows validator private keys to be split into keyshares distributed across multiple independent nodes, enabling an M-of-N threshold setup. The architecture increases fault tolerance and reduces single-point-of-failure risk. The proposal seeks to implement DVT at the protocol-level, which would allow users to simply run standard nodes. Vitalik's proposed design has minimal latency overhead, is compatible with any signature scheme, and encourages self-custody, helping to improve Ethereum's decentralization.
Lens Labs, the team behind the Lens socialfi protocol, announced that stewardship of the Lens protocol has been handed over to Mask Network, a decentralized social project behind the Firefly Web3 social aggregator. The Lens Labs team will serve in an advisory role. Lens Chain, a L2 network built on ZKsync's ZK Stack, and the Lens V3 iteration launched on mainnet in April 2025. Lens Labs cited the need for dedicated focus and expertise to operate consumer social products at scale. The project's new direction will focus on consumer-grade execution, product design, and global distribution.
Gusto, a payroll provider serving over 400,000 small businesses, integrated support for stablecoin payouts to international contractors. The integration leverages Zerohash, a regulated financial infrastructure provider, to handle custody, compliance, and settlement. The release reduces cross-border transfer times from days to minutes, addressing delays and inefficiencies in traditional banking systems. It enables faster, 24/7 global payouts for contractors and more flexible payment options for businesses. The feature is currently in beta.

The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), a subsidiary of Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), is developing a fully onchain trading and settlement platform to allow 24/7 trading of tokenized U.S. equities and ETFs. The system will support fractional share trading through dollar-based orders, stablecoin funding, and multiple chains. The platform will also support both traditional securities and digital asset securities natively issued on the platform. Token holders will maintain the same dividend and voting rights as conventional shareholders, with access provided to qualified broker-dealers under existing market structure rules. ICE is also partnering with major banks, including BNY and Citi, to enable tokenized deposits.
Coinbase and Circle have partnered with the Government of Bermuda to help transform the island into the world's first fully onchain national economy. The initiative seeks to modernize Bermuda's financial infrastructure by moving everyday economic activity, from government services to local commerce, onto blockchain-based systems. Under the partnership, Bermuda's government agencies will pilot stablecoin payments using Circle's USDC stablecoin on Coinbase's Base Chain, while local financial institutions will adopt tokenization tools. Coinbase has already begun expanding its onchain offerings in Bermuda, including USDC lending on Base.
MegaETH, an EVM-compatible Layer 2 targeting up to 100,000 TPS, announced a 7-day Global Stress Test beginning January 22, 2026. The network aims to process 11 billion transactions at a sustained throughput of 15,000 to 35,000 TPS under real-world, high-load conditions, the largest transaction volume among EVM chains. For context, Binance Smart Chain (BSC) has processed roughly the same number of transactions since its launch in 2020. During the test, MegaETH Mainnet will be open to users, supporting latency-sensitive applications such as fully onchain games. Following the stress test, MegaETH plans to launch its public mainnet.
Ethereum Name Service (ENS) launched a public community dataset on Google Cloud BigQuery, enabling anyone to analyze ENS activity using SQL. The dataset is listed on the Google Cloud Web3 Portal and includes key tables such as registry, resolver, resolutions, reverse records, and registration periods. With the upcoming ENSv2 upgrade, the dataset will also expand to cover L2 Primary Names. Users can now explore ENS data without the need to run their own indexing infrastructure.

Optimism introduced Actions, an open-source TypeScript SDK that allows developers to integrate DeFi functionality, such as lending, borrowing, swaps, and payments, into their products, without needing to build complex onchain infrastructure. The SDK supports embedded wallet providers, including Privy, Turnkey, and Dynamic. Developers can offer users access to DeFi yield powered by Aave and Morpho. Developers can configure supported assets and tokens, protocols, markets, and asset allow lists. It also features multi-chain support by default.
Zero Network, an EVM-compatible rollup built on zkSync's ZK Stack, is back online after a four-week pause in block production. According to Zerion co-founder Evgeny, the outage was caused by a synchronization issue between the chain state and the sequencer. The team worked with ZKsync and Caldera to restore the network. All core functions are now operating normally, including block production, batch and proof processing, and withdrawal verification. User funds remained safe throughout the disruption. Zero Network provides zero gas fees to verified wallets by leveraging ZKsync's native account abstraction and paymaster implementation.
Generic Protocol launched its neutral infrastructure layer for creating custom, private, yield-generating onchain stablecoins. By removing reliance on issuer-controlled models, Generic allows networks and apps to deploy native onchain dollars backed by existing assets such as USDC, USDT, and USDS, unifying liquidity. Its first deployment, GUSD, is built on Ethereum and sources yield through Steakhouse Financial on Morpho. GUSD also integrates LayerZero to provide seamless cross-chain accessibility.
