Trust Wallet Browser Extension Exploit

A security vulnerability in the Trust Wallet browser extension version 2.68, released on December 24, 2025, resulted in over $6 million in drained funds across hundreds of wallets. The exploit is suspected to be a supply-chain compromise introduced in the recent update, although Trust Wallet has not confirmed the root cause. Trust Wallet is urging users of its browser extension v2.68 to immediately disable it and upgrade to v2.69 via the official Chrome Web Store. The issue is linked to seed phrase imports triggering the exfiltration of sensitive data, leading to immediate wallet drains on all chains. Mobile-only app users remain unaffected.

Aave DAO Rejects Alignment Proposal

The Aave token alignment phase 1 proposal failed to gain approval from $AAVE token holders. Introduced by BGD Labs co-founder Ernesto Boado, the proposal sought to transfer control of the protocol’s offchain brand assets, including the aave.com domain, from Aave Labs. The proposal aimed to strengthen long-term alignment between the $AAVE token, protocol, and Aave Labs by addressing community concerns over value leakage, such as frontend revenue streams and swap fee diversions from the protocol to Aave Labs. The vote concluded with 55.29% of votes against the proposal.

Uniswap DAO Approves UNIfication

Uniswap governance passed the UNIfication proposal with 98.82% approval, introducing the long-awaited Uniswap protocol fee switch and a UNI token burn mechanism. Following a two-day time lock, the proposal is set to execute onchain on December 27th, activating an immediate 100 million UNI token burn, worth $580 million. The activation enables protocol fees for Uniswap v2 and v3, disables the current Uniswap interface fee, and allocates 40 million UNI tokens toward a 2-year growth budget. Uniswap Foundation staff will also now work under Uniswap Labs.

Introducing Speedy Secure Finality

Ethereum fellow Yash Saraswat and Abhimanyu Nag published a paper on Speedy Secure Finality (SSF), a framework to solve the 15-minute finality delay in the current Gasper protocol on Ethereum. The paper traces the evolution of protocols like Goldfish and RLMD-GHOST. The paper proposes 3-Slot Finality (3SF) as the most pragmatic solution to balance fast economic settlement with the constraints of Ethereum’s large validator set.

Gnosis Fork Recovers Balancer Funds

Gnosis Chain executed a hard fork to recover approximately $9 million in assets stolen from Balancer v2 on Gnosis Chain during the Balancer exploit in early November. The funds have been successfully transferred into a DAO-controlled wallet. Gnosis Chain is working on returning the recovered assets to affected users. Gnosis node operators must update their clients and follow the fork to avoid penalties. The exploit impacted Balancer V2 Composable Stable Pools and Balancer V2 forks across multiple chains, resulting in over $110 million in stolen assets.

Devcon 8 Venue Announced

The Ethereum Foundation announced that Devcon 8 will be held at the JIO World Convention Centre in Mumbai, India, from November 3 to 6, 2026. As the world’s largest gathering of Ethereum developers, the event will feature a mix of deep technical sessions, newcomer programming, community hubs, and cultural installations. To maintain a focus on the main event, organizers are urging ecosystem teams to schedule side events before or after Devcon 8. The conference concludes just before Diwali, a major festival of lights celebrated throughout the country.

Growthepie Adds PolygonPoS

Growthepie integrated support for Polygon PoS into its Ethereum ecosystem analytics tracker. Polygon now has a dedicated chain page on Growthepie where users can track real-time TPS, network activity, and economic data. With over $3.3 billion in bridged TVL, including $2.2 billion in stablecoins, Polygon ranks as the ninth-largest chain by total value bridged. Detailed application-level metrics for builders will also be added to the dashboard.

Hegotá Ethereum Upgrade Timeline

The Ethereum Foundation outlined the tentative timeline for Hegotá, the second Ethereum upgrade in 2026, following Glamsterdam. The proposal period for Headliner EIPs, which provide flagship features that define the upgrade's scope, will open January 8, 2026. There is typically only one headliner EIP per layer. Core developers will discuss Headliner EIP candidates starting with the February 5th ACD call, aiming for a final selection by February 26th. Then, a 30-day window will follow for non-headliner EIPs. FOCIL (EIP-7805), a censorship-resistance feature deferred from Glamsterdam, is already considered for inclusion in Hegotá.

Fileverse Introduces Social ZKovery

Fileverse, an onchain file-sharing platform, introduced Social ZKovery, a new account recovery mechanism. Social ZKovery is privacy-enhancing and serverless, leveraging Zero-Knowledge (ZK) proofs and smart contracts, to allow users to regain access to their Fileverse account. To set it up, users add two trusted individuals to their recovery set; in the event of lost access, both individuals must act to initiate the recovery. The feature is now live across dDocs and dSheets products.

L2Beat Outlines Ethereum Interop Layer

L2Beat outlined the Ethereum Interop Layer (EIL), a proposal designed to unify Ethereum’s L2 ecosystem into a single, cohesive user experience. By making the user the primary executor of transactions, the EIL design prioritizes security and eliminates the need for trusted intermediaries like the solvers and relayers. The EIL provides greater censorship resistance, improved liveness, and overall safety. It also introduces cross-chain Liquidity Providers (XLPs), which replace traditional relayers by supplying liquidity directly to destination smart contracts. L2BEAT is developing its new interoperability risk framework, noting that the EIL may be one of the first designs likely to achieve a perfect safety rating.

Spire Launches The Human Appchain

Spire Labs, cLabs, and Self Protocol introduced The Human Appchain on Celo, a synchronous composability appchain that allows applications to verify human identity natively. Synchronous composability enables apps to instantly view and interact with shared data during a single transaction, removing the need for multiple steps. A demo is now live, allowing users to mint a commemorative Human NFT verifying their identity. The Human App aims to serve as an identity layer, unlocking bot-resistant experiences for airdrops, DeFi, and stablecoins. The app leverages Spire’s Pylon platform and Self Protocol’s Proof of Humanity protocol.
