Freedom Factory introduced PQ1, a hardware wallet design that replaces every public-key primitive protecting a user's seed with hash-based or symmetric cryptography, aiming to close the attack window before quantum computers can break ECDSA signatures. The project published its full hardware schematics, firmware, and a roughly $150 bill-of-materials DIY build guide alongside the announcement.
The design pairs an STM32U585 microcontroller with two secure elements, splitting wallet entropy between them so that compromising either chip alone reveals no key material. All transaction signing uses a stateless hash-based scheme whose only underlying assumption is SHA-256, rather than lattice-based alternatives. The team says it has engaged Trail of Bits to review the ERC-4337 account contracts, and has integrated with Ambire to handle clear-signing on the browser side.
