Invalid Blocks Posted On Ethereum Mainnet

bloXroute's max profit MEV relay encountered an issue, leading to the posting of nine invalid blocks to Ethereum Mainnet. The issue was due to a bug that failed to detect the incorrectly built blocks. The MEV relay did not prompt a demotion of the builder responsible for the improperly formatted blocks, allowing the faulty builder to persist operations. To resolve the issue, bloXroute disabled the builder's ability to make optimistic submissions, a feature that allows verification to be skipped before block submission. Ethereum execution clients rejected the invalid blocks, ensuring they were not added to the chain. The value of the lost blocks amounts to roughly 1 ETH, which bloXroute has committed to paying.

HAI Announces KITE Airdrop

HAI, a multi-collateral RAI fork on Optimism, announced its criteria for the distribution of its KITE governance token. Those eligible for the KITE airdrop include individuals who minted Reflexer’s RAI stablecoin and deposited into Aave, participated in the HAI testnet, or have cast a vote on an Optimism governance proposal with at least 50 OP. The claim period for the KITE token begins on February 12th. Users can sign up as delegates for the KITE DAO, which will be responsible for managing the KITE treasury, adding new collateral types, adjusting stability fees, and setting protocol parameters. HAI is a control-pegged stablecoin initially backed by ETH collateral.

ERC-404 Experimental Token Standard

Pandora Labs released a new Ethereum token standard named ERC-404, blending the features of ERC-20 and ERC-721 standards to facilitate native fractionalization and enhance liquidity for NFTs. The standard features a continuous mint and burn mechanism to support both full and fractionalized token transfers. As the first implementation of ERC-404, Pandora Labs launched a generative collection of 10,000 avatars known as the Replicants. The dual functionality of ERC-404 allows the Replicants to traded on both DEXs as well as NFT marketplaces. ERC-404 is still in an experimental phase and has not undergone auditing. It’s also been described as gas inefficient.

Succinct Introduces Succinct Network

Succinct introduced the Succinct Network, an application-specific blockchain designed for generating ZKPs powered by a unified proof supply chain. Succinct Network provides proof generation infrastructure for ZK-based applications. It features censorship resistance, fast finality, and chain sovereignty. Succinct Network is currently in an alpha phase with a testnet launching in the coming months.

GoDaddy DNSSEC Interface For ENS

Ethereum Name Service (ENS) partnered with GoDaddy to add a user-friendly interface for linking any TLD on the DNS domain registrar to an Ethereum address. The partnership streamlines the process for users with less technical expertise, enabling them to onboard to ENS using their existing DNS domain. The integration uses gasless DNSSEC in the background to import DNS domains into ENS. Without the dedicated UI, users need to manually add a TXT record that contains both the ENS resolver address and their Ethereum wallet. The integration simplifies the process for GoDaddy users to use their DNS for their digital identity on Ethereum.

EigenLayer Opens Restaking Window

The restaking window for LST deposits on EigenLayer is now open through February 9th at 12PM PT. The window also introductes support for Fax's sfrxETH, Mantle's mETH, and the Liquid Collective's LsETH, with no LST deposit caps. There is a 33% cap on restaking points enforced for each LST category. Lido's stETH has already reached its points cap with close to 500,000 stETH in deposits. EigenLayer is among the top 10 largest protocols on Ethereum in terms of TVL, with over $3 billion in LST and native restaking deposits. EigenLayer plans to lift TVL caps and permanently unpause restaking in the coming months.

Treasure Chain Litepaper

TreasureDAO, the leading gaming platform on Arbitrum, published a litepaper outlining Treasure Chain, a rollup chain designed for the Treasure gaming ecosystem. The paper presents a vision and a technical framework for a multi-chain future that encompasses a network of Infinity Chains that settle on the Treasure L2 chain. Treasure aims to operate as a decentralized gaming console, leveraging a rollup-agnostic cross-chain architecture. MAGIC, Treasure's native token, will be used for fee payments and underpinning economic security. A Treasure Chain testnet launch is anticipated by the end of Q1, followed by a targeted mainnet launch in Q3 2024.

Increasing The Block Gas Limit

Toni Wahrstätter, an Ethereum Researcher, together with Vitalik Buterin, published an Ethresear.ch article that explores strategies for increasing the block gas limit. Increasing the block gas limit permits each block to carry more data, thus improving transaction throughput. The article further proposes to raise the cost of nonzero calldata bytes as a means to incentivize the use of blobs for data availability.

EigenDA Supports Arbitrum Orbit Chains

EigenDA, EigenLayer's data availability solution, now extends support to Arbitrum Orbit chains. Arbitrum Orbit is a tech stack for creating L2 chains on Ethereum or L3 chains on Arbitrum AnyTrust chains, including Arbitrum One and Arbitrum Nova. Developers can now choose to post transaction data from their Orbit chain to EigenDA, further reducing transaction costs for end-users. EigenDA represents the first Actively Validated Service service to debut on EigenLayer’s restaking protocol, which holds over $1 billion in TVL. Ethereum restakers can earn yield by opting-in to secure EigenDA. The feature is being incorporated into AltLayer, a Rollup-as-a-Service (RaaS) plattform for creating custom rollups.

Holesky Dencun Client Releases

Nodes operators on the Holesky testnet are advised to upgrade their clients before the Dencun upgrade, set for epoch 29696 on Wednesday, February 7th, at 11:35 UTC. Operators running a Lodestar client on the Holesky network are required to upgrade to version 1.15.0 to ensure compatibility with the Dencun upgrade. Prysm released version 4.2.1 and Nimbus also released version 24.2.0, both of which are highly recommended updates.

Swap.Live Uniswap Front End

Uri Klarman, CEO of bloXroute, unveiled swap.live, a new interface for Uniswap that features an integrated bloXroute RPC. The DEX alternative is designed to safeguard users from front-running and MEV attacks. Additionally, it bypasses Uniswap's 0.1% front-end fee, offering users lower swapping costs. Future updates include support for real-time price updates. bloXroute specializes in providing MEV relay services and block building solutions. Block builders are entities that assemble transaction bundles into blocks and then propose the blocks to validators for inclusion.

EAS Deploys On Arbitrum Nova

Ethereum Attestation Service (EAS), a protocol for creating both offchain and onchain attestations, launched support for Arbitrum Nova. The rollout features EAS contracts, an indexer, a GraphQL API, and an attestation explorer. Arbitrum Nova, which operates based on a Data Availability Committee (DAC) architecture, is designed for gaming and social applications.
