ethPandaOps 2026 Roadmap

ethPandaOps, the Ethereum DevOps team that tests protocol upgrades, released its 2026 roadmap focused on scaling, data visibility, upgrade pipelines, zkVM testing integration, and network hardening. In 2026, ethPandaOps will help Ethereum securely ship the Glamsterdam and Hegota protocol upgrades. Other priorities include maintaining critical tooling, improving benchmarking frameworks, working on Partial Cell Proofs, and expanding its open-source Xatu data pipeline to support broader execution, state, and L2 insights. The team will also enhance its Protocol Visualization Platform with execution layer views, state analysis, and data availability monitoring.

Arbitrum ArbOS Dia Upgrade

Arbitrum activated the ArbOS Dia upgrade, a major update to its tech stack that introduces support for Fusaka EIPs and enhances the overall user experience. The upgrade improves gas fee stability, making pricing smoother and more predictable during periods of high demand, with fewer spikes and delays. The upgrade also supports passkeys, biometrics, device-secured keys, and enterprise-grade authentication methods powered by the new EIP-7951, which brings native secp256r1 (P-256) signature verification. ArbOS Dia also supports a wider range of native gas tokens with improved cross-chain compatibility for Custom Arbitrum chains.

Truebit Suffers $26m Exploit

Truebit Protocol, an Ethereum-based verification layer, suffered a smart contract exploit that resulted in the loss of 8,535 ETH, worth approximately $26 million. The attacker exploited an integer overflow vulnerability in the Truebit Protocol Purchase contract, which was deployed in 2021. The attacker was able to mint an excessive number of TRU tokens at nearly zero cost, which were then redeemed for the ETH held in the contract. Following the incident, the price of TRU plummeted by more than 99%. Truebit advised users to avoid interacting with the affected contract until further notice and stated that it is actively working to trace the stolen funds.

Ondo Finance Expands Onchain Equities

Ondo Finance expanded its Ondo Global Markets platform on Ethereum with 98 new tokenized stocks and ETFs across AI, tech, metals, finance, EV, oil, and large caps. The platform provides access to U.S. equities and ETFs backed by assets held with U.S.-registered custodians, enabling 24/7 transfers, full transferability, 24/5 minting and redemption, and liquidity sourced from traditional financial markets.

Optimism Proposes OP Buyback

The Optimism Foundation published a proposal to direct 50% of incoming Superchain revenue toward OP token buybacks, aiming to align the token's value with Superchain growth. Governance will later decide whether to burn or redistribute the purchased tokens. In the past year, the Optimism Collective has collected 5,868 ETH in revenue. Beyond the buybacks, the proposal seeks to grant the Foundation power to actively manage the remaining ETH in the Optimism treasury. The proposal goes to a governance vote on January 22; if approved, the 12-month buyback program will launch as soon as February, using 50% of January's revenue. ADI Chain Partners With M-Pesa

ADI Chain, an EVM L2 network powered by GPU computing, announced a partnership with M-Pesa Africa, the largest mobile money platform across Africa, to power cross-border payment settlements. ADI Chain provides compliance-ready and institutional-grade infrastructure for real-world assets. ADI Chain is home to a Dirham-backed stablecoin developed by First Abu Dhabi Bank and IHC. ADI Chain is built on ZKsync's Elastic Network, leveraging Airbender, ZKsync's RISC-V–based zkVM.

SharpLink Gaming deployed $170 million worth of ETH from its strategic ETH reserve on Linea, a ZK-EVM rollup by Consensys. The deployment aims to earn staking yield and higher risk-adjusted returns through EigenCloud, with direct incentives from Linea and EtherFi. Custody of the deployment is managed by Anchorage Digital. SharpLink is also a member of the Linea Consortium, which manages the Ecosystem Fund containing 75% of the Linea token supply. With 863,000 ETH in its treasury, SharpLink is the second-largest corporate holder of ETH. Linea is third largest validity rollup with over $689 million in Total Value Secured.

Vitalik On Increasing Bandwidth

Vitalik Buterin calls for prioritizing bandwidth expansion over latency reduction on Ethereum. He notes that ZKPs allow for massive scaling without violating the laws of physics or compromising decentralization, whereas reducing latency faces much harder physical and social constraints. He added that any application requiring sub-second performance will need to use offchain components.

BPO2 Goes Live On Ethereum

The second Blob-Parameter-Only (BPO) fork went live on Ethereum mainnet on Tuesday at epoch 419072. The lightweight BPO upgrade, introduced by EIP-7892, solely adjusts two parameters. BPO2 increased the blob target from 10 to 14 and raised the maximum blob limit from 15 to 21. The expansion of blob capacity further reduces Layer 2 transaction costs. BPO forks are designed to balance the bandwidth constraints of solo stakers with the growing data availability needs of Layer 2 solutions, enabling more scalable blob transactions. Since BPO forks don’t require a hard fork, they can be activated for scaling as needed.

Morgan Stanley Files Ethereum ETF

Investment bank Morgan Stanley filed a new Form S-1 with the SEC to gain approval for its Morgan Stanley Ethereum Trust, which will directly hold spot ETH. The filing's approval is required before trading of the ETF can begin. The proposal also plans to stake a portion of the fund's ETH holdings to generate yield. No specific ticker, listing exchange, or custodian has been mentioned in the filing. Over 6.2 million ETH, worth nearly $2 billion, is currently held across 9 primary spot Ethereum ETFs. BlackRock’s iShares Ethereum Trust ETF currently leads with over 3.6 million ETH.

Ethereum Phone Supports eSIM

Freedom Factory released ethOS v4.1.4 for the dGEN1 device, a significant update to its open-source Ethereum mobile operating system featuring a new ETHGlobal eSIM app, which allows users to purchase mobile data using crypto without the need for credit cards or KYC. The update also upgrades the CHAD (Computer Helping a Degen) AI assistant, introducing voice-to-text capabilities via hardware buttons and contextual screen awareness to help with on-chain actions like token swaps. The release also features app firewalls and a system-level toggle to completely opt-out of Google services.

Ethereum Ecosystem Hits 58,700 TPS

The Ethereum ecosystem, including L2 networks, hit a new peak throughput of 58,786 transactions per second in the last 24 hours. Lighter, a perpetuals-focused L2, continues to lead the charts with about 58,311 transactions per second, followed by Base with a TPS of 84.
