Reducing Optimistic Rollup Withdrawal Times

L2Beat researcher donnoh.eth published his thoughts to reducing the withdrawal window for Stage 1 Optimistic Rollups from seven days to potentially one day, within the context of the Ethereum L2 Stages Framework. Optimistic rollups currently use a 7-day challenge period to protect bridged funds primarily against a strong censorship attack. The rollup framework dictates that Stage 2 rollups must maintain this 7-day period to fully inherit Ethereum security guarantees. The concern with a shorter period for Stage 1 is the increased vulnerability to soft censorship attacks. In economic censorship attacks, defenders must spend funds on priority tips that are not reimbursed. Donnoh.eth says that the next step for reducing the withdrawal window is to agree on a reasonable defender advantage to require.

PeerDAS Live Custody Monitoring

ethPandaOps launched a live custody monitoring tool, powered by the dasmon engine, for Peer Data Availability Sampling (DAS) introduced in Fusaka. Fusaka moved Ethereum's Data Availability (DA) from full replication to a sharded architecture via PeerDAS, where individual nodes only store a subset of the data. The tool aims to ensure the network collectively upholds DA guarantees by making Ethereum's new data availability layer observable and verifiable, giving operators, researchers, and users confidence in the network's guarantees. ethPandaOps is an Ethereum DevOps team that provides resources for testing protocol upgrades.

Ethereum Hub In Lagos

The Ethereum Everywhere team, an Ethereum Foundation team dedicated to amplifying and connecting communities and events globally, is launching an Ethereum Community Hub in Lagos, Nigeria. Located at Web3bridge Africa, the hub will serve as a co-working space and central gathering point for builders, researchers, creators, and artists developing within the Ethereum ecosystem. The hub will host a launch event on December 11, 2025. Two other Ethereum hubs are already live in London and Berlin.

Prysm Client Configuration Issue

The Prysm consensus layer client experienced a configuration mismatch that impacted Prysm validator participation rates following the Fusaka upgrade. The Prysm team provided a workaround, urging impacted node operators to add the --disable-last-epoch-targets validator flag to their Beacon node. The fix is compatible with client version v7.0.0 and does not require a full Beacon node update. Prysm is the second-largest Ethereum consensus layer client with a 17.49% market share, according to clientdiversity.org. Ethereum's multi-client architecture prevented a single point of failure, ensuring the network continued block production.

L2s For Institutional Adoption

Etherealize, Nethermind, and L2Beat published a joint report analyzing Ethereum's L2 ecosystem and its role in the institutional adoption of blockchain for financial infrastructure. The report highlights Ethereum and its L2 ecosystem as the foundation for the global economy’s shift onto onchain rails. The report notes that the shift is being driven by the maturity of the market and increasing regulatory clarity from frameworks like MICA, GENIUS, and CLARITY Acts. L2s offer strategic advantages for institutions, including lower transaction costs, high throughput, and custom controls. L2s can also enable regulatory alignment by using Zero-Knowledge proofs for confidential compliance.

WisdomTree Physical Lido Staked ETH ETP

Global asset manager WisdomTree launched the WisdomTree Physical Lido Staked ETH ETP (LIST), the first European Exchange-Traded Product (ETP) to exclusively hold Lido’s stETH. LIST offers institutional investors exposure to staked ETH and onchain staking rewards through a regulated format. The ETP features a fully staked design, which uses stETH's deep liquidity to process creations and redemptions through secondary markets while avoiding the traditional unstaking buffers and validator withdrawal queues. LIST has begun trading with approximately $50 million in assets under management.

ZKsync Interop Taps L1 Liquidity

ZKsync announced that its Interop solution now allows any chain built with the ZK Stack to natively access the full liquidity of Ethereum L1 DeFi without suffering from fragmented liquidity or slow bridging speed. The ZKsync interop protocol handles the complex mechanics of L2 to L1 interactions, abstracting the process from the user. Users on a ZK Chain can deposit into Aave and borrow assets on Ethereum L1 while remaining entirely on L2. Institutions can now leverage Prividiums, private ZK L2s, to access public L1 market liquidity while maintaining their own governance, privacy, and execution environment.

Fusaka Activates On Ethereum Mainnet

The Fusaka upgrade successfully activated on the Ethereum mainnet at slot 13,164,544. The fork finalized within 15 minutes of activation. Fusaka brings 13 EIPs, delivering improvements in blob scaling, performance, and user experience. The headliner feature, Peer Data Availability Sampling (DAS), enables higher blob throughput, reducing costs for L2s. Blob Parameter Only forks are scheduled to further expand blob capacity by gradually increasing per-block blob limits. Fusaka marks Ethereum’s 17th upgrade, and the second upgrade to activate this year. Ethereum developers are now working on Glamsterdam, the next upgrade featuring BALs and ePBS, scheduled for 2026.

Linea Simultaneously Upgrades To Fusaka

Linea announced that its EVM-equivalent ZK rollup upgraded to Fusaka simultaneously with Ethereum mainnet for the first time. Linea had previously activated four Ethereum upgrades (Paris, Shanghai, Cancun, and Prague) since its launch. The simultaneous activation brings Ethereum's latest EIPs to Linea in real-time. Linea users and dapps have access to the newest EVM features, including EIP-7951, which enables native passkey support while lowering verification costs. Linea also implemented zkASM, a high-level "source language" that generalizes EVM constraint logic and compiles directly into circuits.

Protocol Guild Q4 2025 Audit

The Protocol Guild, a collective supporting Ethereum core protocol contributors, released its Q4 2025 quarterly audit of funded members. The Guild's membership has grown to 184 active core contributors, reflecting a net increase of 8 members from the prior quarter. The guild added 23 new members across teams like Lighthouse, Prysm, and the new zkEVM Working Group. 14 members were also graduated to alumni status, including figures like Dankrad Feist and Davide Crapis. The changes were processed onchain for the first time using new Agora-based DAO contracts. The Protocol Guild has allocated over $33 million to Ethereum core developers since its launch in May 2022.

Shutter Threshold Encrypted Mempool

Shutter Network and Primev are launching a threshold encrypted mempool aimed at protecting users from malicious MEV attacks. The solution uses Shutter's threshold encryption to keep transactions unreadable until their execution order is fixed, combined with Primev's mev-commit infrastructure. It also uses economic enforcement to ensure builders commit blindly and honestly. Users can access the MEV protection by using a custom FastRPC endpoint hosted by Primev. The solution is targeted for a mainnet launch by Q1 2026.
