Polygon raised its block gas limit to 160M at 1.5-second blocks as part of its most recent upgrade, enabling up to 5,000 payments per second. The 160m gas limit is the latest milestone on Polygon's Gigagas roadmap. Polygon previously executed a series of upgrades that added EIP-7702 gasless transactions; made every confirmed block final, and cut confirmation times by two seconds.
The upgrade directly supports Polygon's Open Money Stack, which entered technical preview earlier this month. Polygon is the settlement rail for OMS, which provides a single API for stablecoin payments, wallets, and fiat on/off-ramps. Stripe enabled USDC payments on Polygon for merchants in 150+ countries in December 2025, Polymarket settles billions in prediction-market volume on it, and BlackRock's BUIDL, Franklin Templeton's BENJI, and Apollo's tokenized fund are all available on the network.
