Post Quantum Ethereum By 2029
The EF Protocol Cluster outlines shared priorities to reach post-quantum readiness by 2029.

The EF Protocol Cluster also published its priorities for achieving post-quantum resistance across execution, consensus, and data layers on Ethereum L1 by December 2029. The post-quantum goal currently requires 5 hardforks after Glamsterdam to the L* hardfork, an average ship time of 7.2-months per fork. Alternatively, an intermediate Minimum Viable Post-Quantum (MV-PQ) fallback is listed in the J* hardfork on Ethereum's strawmap, achievable in a 1-year cadence.
The fallback specification outlines a post-quantum public-key registry in I*, followed by a consensus-layer heartbeat, leanDA sampling on the data layer, and leanSPHINCS transactions on execution in J*. All development operates across five multi-fork research arcs: fast finality, post-quantum, privacy, state, and zkEVM. A post-quantum Ethereum refers secures Ethereum accounts, signatures, and network state against future quantum computer attacks.
