Lido Plans Validator Consolidation from 240,000 to 3,750

Lido completed its first validator consolidation on the Hoodi testnet, targeting a 98% reduction from 240,000 to 3,750 validators.

Lido completed its first validator consolidation on the Hoodi testnet, kicking off a multi-month plan to consolidate its validator set from roughly 240,000 nodes down to 3,750 using MaxEB.

The Plan

Lido's Node Operator Working Group laid out a roadmap that uses MaxEB — the increase in maximum effective balance per validator shipped with Pectra — to reduce the operational footprint of the Lido validator set by roughly 98%. The first batch was consolidated successfully on the Hoodi testnet ahead of mainnet rollout.

Why It Matters

Validator consolidation is the second-order benefit of MaxEB and one of the larger operational efficiencies Pectra enabled. For staking pools running tens of thousands of validators, consolidation reduces signing load, attestation aggregation pressure, and infrastructure cost without changing economic security.

What's Next

Lido plans staged consolidation on mainnet as the Hoodi testnet validates the procedure end-to-end. Other large operators are expected to follow once Lido publishes a public post-mortem.

Carl Beek Departs Ethereum Foundation

Beek becomes the latest in a string of high-profile EF exits, alongside Ethereum researcher Julian Ma, who also announced his departure today.

Ethereum developer Carl Beek announced that May 29th will be his last day at the Ethereum Foundation, becoming the latest in a string of notable departures from the organization. Beek joined the EF at the age of 23 and contributed to some of Ethereum's most significant technical milestones, including the KZG ceremony and early Beacon Chain architecture.

Beek also co-authored EIP-7935 to raise the mainnet gas limit and authored Quick Slots EIP-8198 for reducing slot duration. His departure follows a wave of EF exits since Tomasz Stańczak stepped down in February 2025, including Trent Van Epps, Barnabé Monnot, Tim Beiko, Raúl Kripalani, and Ethereum researcher Julian Ma, who also announced his departure today. Danny Ryan and Dankrad Feist left the EF in 2024 and 2025.

Aave Fully Restores WETH Markets

Aave restores LTV parameters across all V3 WETH deployments affected by the rsETH exploit, while KelpDAO consolidates bridging support and trims 20 chains.

Aave has fully restored the loan-to-value ratios across all V3 WETH market deployments affected by the rsETH exploit, including Ethereum Core, Ethereum Prime, Arbitrum, Base, Mantle, and Linea. Parameters are now set to their pre-incident values. KelpDAO is also consolidating its rsETH bridging support, dropping support for 20 chains effective June 15.

Holders on selected chains are urged to bridge back to Ethereum mainnet, with post-deadline recovery available for a 100 USDC fee. Compound, Euler, and Aave successfully liquidated the attacker's collateral positions. The restorations bring a soft close to the DeFi United recovery initiative. Aave Pro has since added a read-only portfolio view for V4 positions.
