"Vitalik: An Ethereum Story," a community-funded documentary feature film, is now available for streaming at ethereumfilm.xyz. Viewers can purchase an onchain streaming ticket NFT for $20 to access the film. The documentary had its in-person premiere earlier this week and will remain available for streaming until October 20th. A broader release on popular streaming platforms is planned for early next year. The documentary dives into the creation of Ethereum, Vitalik Buterin's journey, and the global community of builders. The film has been three years in the making, shot across 28 cities and 15 countries.
Basenames introduced support for Farcaster Frames on its Base.eth subname identity platform. Users can now pin Farcaster Frames to their Base profiles, including a Paycaster tipping frame, a Build top nomination frame, a Slice store frame, and a Hypersub subscription frame. Users can also pin a custom frame implementation. Farcaster Frames offers an integrated experience that can be embedded directly into a cast or site, enabling users to interact with dynamic and responsive commands without leaving the app. Basenames, which are third-level domains under the Base.eth second-level ENS domain, have seen over 430,000 registrations since launching in August.
Polygon zkEVM is scheduled to undergo the Eggfruit upgrade on the mainnet on September 30th, following the activation of a 10-day timelock today. The upgrade will introduce a more performant rollup sequencer, which will improve transaction ordering and significantly increase transaction throughput. As part of this upgrade, all infrastructure providers must transition to the new cdk-erigon RPC Node, as the existing RPC Node will be deprecated. Polygon zkEVM, an EVM-equivalent ZK Rollup, is poised to eventually support the Polygon PoS chain as a ZKEVM validium.

Eth.link ENS Gateway Reactivates

Core developers agree to split Pectra.
ArbitrumDAO approved Timeboost.
The eth.link gateway, which enables users to access their .eth ENS domains over HTTPS, is now live under the eth.limo service. The relaunch follows years of ownership disputes after the domain expired in 2022. Eth.link was initially owned by Virgil Griffith, an Ethereum developer serving a 56-month sentence for delivering a blockchain presentation in North Korea. ETH.LIMO, an alternative content delivery network solution, has collaborated with ENS Labs to power the eth.link domain. The gateway now offers full-featured support, including CCIP and ENSIP-10, subdomains, and compatibility with IPFS, IPNS, Swarm, Arweave, ARNS, and DNS over HTTPS. ENS domain holders can simply add .link or .limo to their ENS in a web browser to access their records over DNS.
U.S. District Court Judge Reed O'Connor has ruled in favor of the SEC, granting its motion to dismiss a lawsuit filed by Ethereum infrastructure provider Consensys. In April 2024, Consensys filed a lawsuit against the SEC, accusing the agency of regulatory overreach and an inappropriate expansion into regulating Ethereum. Over the past year and a half, Consensys has faced multiple disruptions from the SEC. The SEC first issued subpoenas to Consensys in 2023, followed by a Wells notice in 2024. Most recently, the SEC filed a lawsuit against Consensys related to its MetaMask Swaps and MetaMask Staking services.
Ethereum core developers agreed to split the upcoming Pectra upgrade into two separate hard forks. Client teams agreed to prioritize finalizing the current EIPs in devnet3, along with any necessary improvements. Core developer Alex Stokes mentioned that the scope for the second fork, named Pectra B, will be determined at a later stage. This split is intended to expedite the upgrade process, avoiding the delays associated with a single large fork. Pectra as a single fork would mark the largest fork in Ethereum's history, incorporating 20 EIPs. Devnet 3, which launched on Monday, includes eight of these EIPs.

Everclear Launches On Mainnet Beta

The Fed cuts interest rates by half a point.
Interoperability protocol Everclear, previously known as Connext Network, launched its clearing layer on mainnet beta. Built as an Arbitrum Orbit rollup, it leverages Hyperlane and Eigenlayer to streamline cross-chain liquidity settlement. The protocol reduces rebalancing costs for solvers and intent-based bridges. Everclear enables chain abstraction, where a network of solvers competes to execute user requests on the target chain, removing the need for users to bridge. The process is automated through a Dutch auction system. Everclear also uses vbNEXT, a vote-bonded token mechanism that dynamically allocates liquidity where it’s needed most.
Espresso Systems and Offchain Labs released a specification for Decentralized Timeboost, its latest version of a transaction ordering mechanism for sequencers designed to minimize the effects of MEV while ensuring low latency. The design allows users to pay a fee for priority block inclusion. Timeboost leverages an encrypted mempool, keeping transaction details hidden until a user's order is finalized. It will also be integrated into the Espresso marketplace, enabling rollups to auction the right to sequence transactions. The specification is now open for community feedback ahead of a planned mainnet release.
Google Cloud launched an Ethereum RPC Service, allowing developers to access reliable enterprise-grade RPC endpoints for their applications. The Remote Procedure Call (RPC) endpoints enable applications to interact with the Ethereum network by sending transactions and retrieving data. The service is fully compatible with Ethereum's JSON-RPC standard. Google Cloud plans to expand the service to support additional networks in the coming year. By using providers like Google Cloud, AWS, or Alchemy, developers can avoid the complexity of managing their own node infrastructure. Google Cloud first started to accept cryptocurrency payments for its services in early 2023.
The U.S. Federal Reserve reduced interest rates by 50 basis points to a range of 4.75% to 5%, marking the first rate cut since 2020. The decision was widely anticipated, with prediction markets estimating a 40% likelihood of the cut beforehand. The Fed emphasized that inflation is easing toward its 2% target. Shortly after the announcement, crypto prices remained largely stable, with ETH trading at just over $2,330.
